Kung Fu 4 Kids
Kung Fu 4 Kids
Kung Fu 4 Kids (Formerly Wei Chi Kung Fu Club) has been at the forefront of Martial Arts instruction for children and adults in Dublin since 1984. We enjoy an excellent reputation of which we are justly proud.
Our Instructors and Teaching Assistants are specially trained in instructing Kung Fu to children to ensure that all classes are safe and enjoyable. All our Instructors possess First Aid certification and the club is fully insured. We regularly update our knowledge not only through our ongoing Martial Arts training but through attending educational sports seminars and liasing with groups such as the ISPCC, Campaign Against Bullying, the Gardai and others. We also enjoy a good relationship with a number of schools in the area.
Kung Fu 4 Kids is taught for self-defence and self awareness, and also to improve health, strength, flexibility and self control. We focus on safety, encouraging kids to do their best, and to believe in themselves and most importantly for children -the three ‘Big C’s: Concentration - Coordination - Confidence.
The goal of our classes is for all of our members to have fun and to make their visits to the Martial Arts Academy the highlight of their week.
The Criteria for progression from White through to Black Sash consists of examining two different categories; -
Life skills and Kung Fu Skills.
Life Skills: - This is the displaying and understanding of positive qualities in each of our members. E.g. Respect, Courtesy, Honesty, Determination, Focus, Self-control etc.
Kung Fu Skills: - This is the demonstration of the techniques and concepts of our Kung Fu styles.
Our Junior program consists of 3 stages
STAGE 1: - White Sash, Blue Sash, Yellow Sash, Orange Sash and Green Sash
o Progression through the ranks at this stage is determined by the continuous assessment of each child throughout each term. Assessment boards are displayed at class and our kids are awarded stars as they show determination and improve as a result of their efforts.
o Once stars have been awarded for all the criteria for a particular sash, the child will be automatically awarded the corresponding rank allowing the child to progress at his/her rate and without the need for stressful formal testing at such an early stage in their life.
STAGE 2: - Purple and Red Sash
o Elements from Yang's Martial Arts Association’s senior program are incorporated into the Kung Fu 4 Kids training at this Stage.
o Members are invited to test for any further grades from this stage onwards.
o Green Sash holders have the option of joining YMAA International.
o Purple and Red Sash Holders (as long as they are YMAA International members) can test for parts or all of their 1st Shaolin Stripe with Master Yang during his annual visit to Ireland.
STAGE 3: - Brown Sash, Black Tip and Black Sash
o A “Path to Black Sash” Plan is created in conjunction with the student and their parents to help them achieve their goals during this stage.
o At this stage the student must be a member of YMAA International and will be expected to train along with the Adult Shaolin students on a regular basis.
o He/She must hold the rank of 1st Shaolin Stripe.
o Members are invited to test for their grades at this stage.
o YMAA International members can test for his/her 2nd Shaolin Stripe with Master Yang during his annual visit to Ireland.
o On the awarding of the 2nd Shaolin stripe, an agreed date (between Instructor, Student and Parents) is set for the Final and Ultimate test. Once the date has been agreed the student will be invited to test for their Black Sash!
