Progressive Martial Arts

For Pre-Teens & Teenagers

We offer two terms of classes per year with 3 classes per week available for our club members to attend during each of these terms. Our Autumn term runs from September to December with our Spring term running from January to June. Each class is 90 minutes long! We also offer 5 camps annually with a camp at Easter, Halloween and 3 during the summer.

We understand that teenagers of today have very busy schedule but we suggest attending two classes at a minimum each week to get full exposure to our vast training program and to make suitable progress in the training.

Monday evening's class is dedicated to San shou training and takes place in the Theatre room of The Martial Arts Academy. This room is fully fitted with 40mm tatami matting and padded walls and we have climbing ropes, numerous punching bags, a speed ball and a floor to ceiling ball. Aside from this we have sandbags, kettle bells, weights and a whole lot more to make our training all the more interesting and complete. Class begins at 5.15pm and our students should be dressed and kitted out with hand wraps, groin box, shin pads and gum shield. Skipping ropes, Gloves, chest protectors and head gear are also required over time, but initially there are some available for use at class until such time as they can be afforded and the student has shown enough interest to warrant such an outlay.

Friday and Saturday covers Shaolin Kung Fu and self defence with many senior students and instructors available to help in your progression through the grades. These classes are held at 6pm (Friday) and 2pm (Saturday) in our 1000 sq/ft Studio. Our Wednesday evening session is a bonus class for those keen to increase their weekly amount of training hours, this is our Adults Shaolin training class and is not suitable as a once off class per week, it is another level of toughness altogether and you must be training more than once per week to be ready for it;-)

Progressive Martial Arts - Not just a Martial arts club

Before 'Progressive Martial Arts' opened it's doors in September of 2009, our older Kung Fu Kids were caught between making their way into the Adults Shaolin classes (somewhat prematurely!) or staying in the more advanced classes of our Kung Fu 4 Kids club (not ideal or an attractive prospect for our young adults!). We also found it difficult to offer a suitable place for any new members between the ages of 11 and 17 and turned many budding Martial artists off and away from our club. As much as we tried to accommodate them in whatever classes they choose we unfortunately lost allot of members and allot of talent during this time. Having taken over the Kung Fu 4 Kids classes in 2004, Chief Instructor Paul Moran recognised that this age group needed something different to make the prospect of continuing their training an attractive one. Paul decided to give this group their own club and designed a program into which the teenagers would feel increasing challenged, take on extra responsibilities, progress more efficiently through the grades, belong to a group of like minded, focused and driven people. The club offers a positive environment filled with great role models and mentors to help them through the formative teenage years. Paul has taken the fun aspect of the Kung Fu 4 kids program and combined it with the traditional Shaolin Kung Fu, Self defence programs and the combat sport of San shou. The club has been a resounding success and in our first year we had over 40 members join our club with the club looking to grow year on year.

With Kung Fu camps for Teens, Training holidays, fitness tests, seminars, pizza parties, competitions and regular outings our club has evolved to be more than just a Martial Arts club we've 'progressed' to something allot better!
